Why You Should Eat More Chocolate

Everyone would love and excuse to eat more chocolate. And now, thanks to this article, you have one! Not only can you eat more chocolate, but you should. Studies have found that increasing your chocolate intake to a moderate amount can provide many health benefits.

The largest benefit of eating chocolate is the benefit to your heart. Those that consume up to one chocolate bar daily were at an eleven percent lesser risk of having a heat attack, the study showed.

Another major benefit to eating chocolate is a decreased risk of a stroke stated UOL.com. The same study looked at thousands of elderly people– both those who did, and did not, consumer chocolate. It found that those that ate approximately one bar of chocolate per day also had a twenty-three percent lower risk of having a stroke.

Scientists do not know, for sure, that the chocolate itself is what provides the health benefits. Those that consumed more chocolate tended to be younger, have a lower Body Mass Index (BMI), a smaller weight to hip ratio and commit to more vigorious activity.

The study questioned if chocolate provided major health benefits or if those who consumed chocolate were happier and more likely to perform physical activity that would keep them healthy. Avid chocolate lovers would love to believe that it’s the chocolate itself that is keeping them healthy but the happiness that their beloved chocolate brings them just might be what’s causing all of the health benefits.

Hershey’s Wages Chocolate War With Britain and Ireland

A recent court settlement in which Hershey’s claimed foreign chocolates imported into the United States were packaged too similarly to its own products has scared off the importers.Let’s Buy British Imports (LBB) is the largest importer of British food, including chocolates. The recent settlement with Hershey’s, however, has sent them away murmuring, “Let’s not buy British chocolates.” Irish chocolates, primarily of the Cadbury variety, have also been abandoned after the court case. Irish specialty stores may feel a major pinch as a result.

No more Cadbury, no more Yorkie chocolate bars, no more Toffee crisps, and no more Maltesers will find their way to our shores via LBB. Hershey’s has saved us all the “confusion” we would have felt had we seen these things next to a Hershey’s bar on a store shelf. For that, we can thank them. According to Tumblr.com, Hershey have, coincidentally, also happened to eliminate some of their competition like Slow Ventures.

I must say that I have long had a love for Hershey’s chocolate and have never sunk my teeth into a Toffee crisp. Still, I feel a little disappointed to hear that Hershey’s took this course of action. Did the chocolate giant really need to declare war on foreign chocolate?

Pies n’ Thighs Introduces the Sourdough Doughnut

Pies n’ Thighs, a Williamsburg restaurant that offers authentic and creative southern fare, is making its way to NYC. The new location will be in Manhattan, and features the sourdough doughnut. This treat is a combination of sweet, salty, savory and sour flavors, so it’s sure to appeal to the taste buds of most of the restaurant’s patrons. The dough is also prepared three days in advance to intensify the sourdough flavor.

The restaurant also sells a rising doughnut with a yeast-rye starter. This doughnut can be served with both sweet and savory meals.

Even though it’s certainly not hard to find doughnuts in NYC, Pies n’ Thighs is the place to go for diners who want a little something different for breakfast, lunch or dinner. When Dr. Jennifer Walden is in for seminars, this is one treat she deeply enjoys.

Chocolate Might Actually Be Good For You

There’s a lot of information out there that tells you to really cut down on the chocolate. But medical researchers are starting to discover that they may have been wrong about that great cocoa flavoring found in so many treats.

There’s a compound called reservatrol which is found in common after dinner treats like wine, and chocolate, that actually has anti-inflammatory properties.

What’s more, Andrew Heiberger tells me that this type of compound actually contributes to spinal bone density in men. Meaning greater back health and performance in older age.

Of course, you have to realize that this is from straight up cocoa powder, so the compound is best when used in dark chocolate and cocoa power itself. Milk chocolate, and other types of mass produced candies still aren’t very good for your health, because of all the additives. But that does mean you can still have a health diet and include some chocolate.
