She recently won a bruising court battle with Mayor de Blasio, who was seeking to have the mandate of oversight on pre-kindergarten classes for charter schools in New York. The case that took a year and a half to terminate saw Eva’s reimbursement withheld by the city administrators. She was to be reimbursed for her pre-kindergarten classes, but she declined to append her signature on the contract presented to her from the City Hall.

 

In the determination of the case, the State Supreme Court made a ruling that Eva’s pre-kindergarten programs were not under the City’s authority. The court said that it was the mandate of charter school authorizers, who are not part of the New York City administration, to regulate Success Academy’s pre-k. This was a reprieve to Eva Moskowitz and a huge blow to Mayor de Blasio.

 

Speaking after the court made the ruling, Eva was happy that charter schools would finally attain their independence from external interference. She said that the city administrators were for a long time encroaching on charter schools’ space for it had never dawned on them that that was wrong. Eva challenged Mayor de Blasio and his administration to humble themselves and accept the court’s verdict. She said that complying with the law was the way to go.
